Horace Mann vs. Einstein

My family came to cheer me on....signs and all!
Me and my BFF Mikala!

As a fundraiser, our staff plays a basketball game vs. the staff of another school. It is always an entertaining event for all involved. A lot of heavy breathing, horrible traveling, and the worst two handed shots from the chest you have ever seen! About 2 minutes into the first quarter I was gasping for air....I guess I'm a little out of shape!

The Great Wolf Lodge

This weekend the Moulton family went on a road trip to Grand Mound Washington (home of a pawn and smoke shop and The Great Wolf Lodge). We had a blast! The GWL is an indoor waterpark. According to Andrew, "It is just family fun for everyone". There were slides and activities for the little ones and the Howling Tornado for us big people. Of course the Moulton boys took the scariest slide and did what they could to make it a little more adventurous. Bryce and Andrew tried to flip the 4 person tube while going down the slide. When they couldn't do that, Bryce decided to turn himself backwards on the tube....I was worried he wasn't going to get himself turned back around before the lifeguard at the bottom saw him. I can't say the Moulton boys didn't get a few whistles blown at them, but at least Andrew didn't get put in time out like he did at the last waterpark we went to.

RIP Marty

He was a good fish. He always loved holidays. He joined our family the day before Easter and left us the day before Memorial Day. He will be missed.

My First Ride

Tonight Andrew and I rode his motorcycle to our ward activity. We figured since it was a beautiful day in Seattle and we only live a few minutes from our building, it would be a perfect night for a ride on the motorcycle....after our disastrous joy ride a few weeks ago! On our way home, Andrew decided to take me on a little adventure. A few weeks ago he discovered a mud pit near our house. He likes to call it a dirt bike track, I like to call it trespassing. After a few rounds of riding with Andrew in control, he decided to give me my first dirt biking lesson. It was very reminiscent of my dad teaching me how to drive a stick...."you have to let off the clutch and SLOWLY hit the gas". I've always been a bit of a lead foot, so I guess you would say I am also a lead wrist. I hit the gas a little hard, lost my balance, and tipped over in the mud. I'd like to report that was only time I landed in the mud, but it wasn't. I forgot to mention one important fact; I wasn't very prepared for my first ride. I was wearing shorts and flip flops...not the best riding gear. When we got home there was so much mud on my feet that even the hose on the jet stream setting wouldn't take the mud off. I can't say I'll be entering the X Games anytime soon.

I Saved A Muskrat....No Joke

Today I was walking out to my car after basketball practice (I coach a group of 4th grade girls from my class) when I saw one of my students walking toward the pond near our school. She loves animals so I yelled, "what critter did you find this time". She yelled to come over quick....she said she found a rat that was stuck in the fence. My first reaction was to pretend I didn't hear her. If you know me, you know I absolutely hate animals. Yes, I know, it makes me sound very insensitive, but I just hate all animals. Anyways. I definitely couldn't pretend I couldn't hear her, so I made my way towards the fence. Low and behold there was a very large ROUS (rodent of unusual size) stuck in the fence. The little girl in my class was so distraught over the whole thing. She said she couldn't leave until she knew he was going to be okay. Talk about moral dilemma....do I pretend I have to be somewhere or do I save the nasty animal? Her mom came to pick her up and we convinced her we would save the muskrat if she went home with her mom. To make a long story short we poked and prodded the nasty thing, but he wouldn't budge. Next step? Call animal control. Unfortunately they don't help with wildlife. What on earth do they do then? What about bears? Do they just tell people, "sorry we don't deal with wildlife" when someone calls? Their only answer was to call the fish and wildlife department. Unfortunately their hours are 8-5 and they don't work weekends. I guess they assume that fish and wild animals only need help during the hours of 8-5. Next step? Washington State Patrol. I do have to say that Sergent Miles (I'll change his name for safety reasons...or maybe just because I can't remember his name) was very helpful. After giving a brief description of the ROUS, he verified the animal was a muskrat. Sergent Miles came to save the day, only to find that the muskrat had freed himself....so he thought. After a few phone calls we determined that my student had returned with her dad to help save our dear rodent friend. Her dad came with rubber gloves and pushed him through. He did say his gloves had a few claw marks and bites. I guess he was a nasty little guy! Sergent Miles did launch our friend over the fence so none of the students at Einstein Elementary find our friend on their way to school tomorrow!
